What is the good proper Sturgeon Roe expensive stuff?
I've only eaten Salmon Roe other than tiny tastes here or there. Looking to treat myself to a nice tin.
Cheers for any help.

Belugas the best but its incredibly expensive. Salmon roe is not in the same league. My mrs helped set up an AIDS lab in Moscow during the Soviet Union Days. They gave her huge expenses which wasn't allowed to leave the country so she returned with about 1/2 lb of the stuff plus vodka and russian chapagne.
Delicious but decadent. Eat from a wafer or hard boiled eggs

It is SHIT, a totally pointless 'FOOD' unlike RIB. It is basically a 'look at me' delicacy.

This website is letting me down come on you peasants help me out someone must have an acquired taste for it.
Im not trying to buy the stuff that is 500 pound or a grand a serving. Just the stuff that is 100 pound or so for 100grams and is now cheaper considering the rouble is crumbling I know folk over there who might wanna ship it to me and make some money.

Tried it once tastes like salty fish and stinks to high heavens. My dad also hated it , he once said some people would eat shit if it was expensive, HA.

Beluga is the most expensive, and its export and sale is licenced, so being russian is available in large quantities on the black market and is normally of questionable provenance.
I personally prefer the red caviar, which is relatively cheap and widely available.

I tried some Tommy Roe but it just made me dizzy.
Back in the day they used to sell cod roe in the chippy. Do they still do that?

Re: Caviar

It's priced for its rarity, not its taste.
The most expensive is from the highly endangered Beluga Sturgeon, which lives in the Caspian Sea. So you can get Beluga caviar from Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
Basically, all caviars taste pretty much the same (fish + salt), the main differences being in the size of the eggs, the colour and the texture/mushiness.
